The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) recently canceled grants, disrupting almost 200 research projects across nearly 30 states. The affected projects covered a wide range of health challenges, including cancer screening, rural healthcare, maternal health, patient safety, hospital-acquired infections, and antibiotic use. More cancellations are likely to surface over the coming weeks.

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is asking senators to sign a letter urging the Department of Health and Human Services to reverse the cancellations, restore funding to affected projects, use AHRQ’s Fiscal Year 2026 funding as Congress intended, and provide a plan for awarding the remaining research funds.
